Objective:
The owners of this stately home wanted a new kitchen with quality and style to match the rest of their richly detailed home.
The Challenge:
Maintaining the existing storage, counter space and raised eating table were high priorities. The homeowners wanted to integrate built-in appliances, a bar sink, a professional-style cook top in its own alcove, double ovens, and a concealed microwave. Their existing space had builder’s grade cabinets and was poorly planned. The work triangle was ineffective and inefficient.
The Solution:
The solution was to transform the space into a refined and flowing masterpiece. The doorways to the lower level and the back hall were removed to increase the perception of space. A bar sink and appliance garage were added and the refrigerators are conveniently concealed behind wood panels. Secondary refrigerator drawers are located at the bar area near the table to permit easy access.
A prominent focal point in the kitchen is the island and the cook top niche with a hood extending to the ceiling. The 36” cook top is housed in a cherry wood enclosure with a lining of glazed tiles and pullout spice racks on both sides. The island serves as the main prep area, allowing the cook to be a part of the group while entertaining. Egg & Dart beaded inset door style contribute to the stately look of the design. The cherry cabinets and the layers of moldings blend beautifully with the home’s handsome millwork. The homeowner is delighted with the transformation of the kitchen, which is now the centerpiece of this lovely home.
